Greater Manchester Cancer Vanguard Innovation

One of our project teams has been assessing the findings of a survey into what people would like to see from a cancer intelligence service.

Our aim is to set up a service to provide intelligence for patients and their families to make informed decisions, and for stakeholders to ensure the best delivery of, and access to, cancer services.

Our survey canvassed the views of service providers, commissioners, patients and other potential users of cancer intelligence across Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire.

Graph illustrates respondents’ complaints about current data

Respondents said the most important data was information about clinical outcomes, patient-reported outcomes and service performance.  The biggest issues with current information sources highlighted by the survey were that information is too difficult to find or access and that it is often out-of-date.

Adrian Hackney, project lead for Vanguard Innovation’s cancer intelligence service, said: ‘These responses fit completely with the remit and objectives of the service we want to establish.

Respondents by sector

‘We feel this is an excellent endorsement of this project by the Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire cancer population and gives us a strong mandate to push this service forward to implementation.’

We have so far received 71 responses from across the spectrum of cancer intelligence users. The survey is still open: if you would like to take part please click below.
