Streamlining the cancer commissing process
Reforming the commissioning landscape and the effective use of cancer budgets
We will produce proposals for different ways of commissioning – or planning – and contracting for cancer care. This will help reduce fragmentation in the way cancer services are delivered and make the system more transparent and accountable. We will pilot a system called an accountable clinical network for cancer which will be more efficient in delivering cancer services and more open to scrutiny. We will try out new ways of budgeting for cancer services. In testing these new methods we will place the emphasis on improved outcomes for patients and look at whole pathways of care – the route a patient takes through the health system. Our goal will be to improve prevention, earlier diagnosis and aftercare.
